Final Dissemination Event – ISE Impact Evaluation Project

This page features all presentations from the final dissemination event of a WADA-funded project that evaluated the impact of the International Standard for Education (ISE) both globally and at the Anti-Doping Organisations (ADOs) level.

About the Project

At the global level, this World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) funded project assessed changes in anti-doping education following the implementation of the International Standard for Education (ISE) by analysing relevant Code Compliance Questionnaire (CCQ) data, with comparisons across Anti-Doping Organisations (ADOs) in Tiers 1–4.

At the organisational level, the project explored ADO responses to the ISE through interviews with staff from six ADOs across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. It also examined perceptions of educational changes resulting from the ISE through interviews with athletes and Athlete Support Personnel (ASP) who received education from these six ADOs.

About the Dissemination Event

The dissemination event involved a series of presentations highlighting the relevance of the findings for the upcoming ISE 2027 and for the delivery of education by ADOs. Specifically, the event aimed to:

  • Present findings from the WADA-funded ISE Impact Evaluation Project, including insights relevant to the current ISE revision process and ISE 2027.
  • Facilitate the translation of research findings into clean sport and anti-doping education practice.
  • Emphasise the critical role of social science research in shaping clean sport and anti-doping education policy.

Below is an overview of the sessions from the event, including the speakers involved in each, and the video links.

Keynote

Introduction and Importance of the Project

Amanda Hudson (Director of Education, WADA)

This keynote presentation explored the origins and objectives of the International Standard for Education (ISE) from the funder's perspective. It highlighted the value of research in evaluating the ISE’s impact, particularly in determining whether its goals had been met. The presentation also demonstrated how the project’s findings informed the development of ISE 2027 and underscored the broader benefits of such research for policy and practice in anti-doping education.

Project Findings: Work Package 1

Project Team Members: Professor Ian Boardley & Dr Martin Chandler

This presentation shared findings from an analysis of anti-doping education data collected through the 2017 and 2022 Compliance Questionnaires (CCQs) and education plans developed by ADOs. It showed that the implementation of the ISE was associated with changes in both the quality and quantity of education delivery and revealed differences across ADOs of varying size and scale (Tiers 1–4). The session also highlighted systematic differences in education plan content across tiers, offering valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers.

Project Findings: Work Package 2

Project Team Members: Dr Andrew Heyes, Dr Shushu Chen, & Dr Jules Woolf

This presentation shared findings from Work Package 2, which evaluated how the ISE was received and implemented across ADOs, NOCs, and IFs through interviews with 45 education staff. It also presented insights from interviews with elite athletes and athlete support personnel, comparing their experiences before and after the ISE’s introduction. Additionally, the session demonstrated how logic models can support the design, monitoring, and evaluation of anti-doping education programmes.
